The Genealogical of the Hulstein name.

In the year 18
68 the Artist H.G Van Amerongen made a sketch of the Mansion called Van Hulckesteijn , a large estate on the banks of the river Rijn, between the towns of Arnhem and Oosterbeek. This Dutch "buitenhuis" was built in the year 1500 by the Hertog { Duke} Karel van Egmond. In around 1649 we find 2 females living there. A Marij Jansen and Lijsenoije op Den Hulck. Marij Jansen was the widow of Hendrick Arentz, the earliest Hulstein descendant we have found so far. In those earlier years there were no family names as we know today. Your last name was your father's name and a letter Z was than added at the end of your fathers name. If the Father's name was Arents and you were named Hendrick you would than be known as Hendrick Arentsz. Hendrick. the son of Arents. Was your name Gerrit and your father's name was Jans, you would than be known as Gerrit Jansz. Mary Jansen's husband, our first known ancestor, was Hendrick Arentsz, so his father must have been named Arent, sometimes spelled as Arents. So here we can start with ourHulstein Family Tree, starting with:
Hendrick Arentsz. Born at the Van Hulckesteijn in about 1580. His occupation was a pachter { a renter of the farmland at the Estate} This around 1605. In 1625 he was known to be an Elder in the Church at Oosterbeek. He died circa 1649. His widow Marij Jansen died at the Van Hulckesteijn a few years after.
Arent Hendricksz. Was born at the Van Huclkesteijn circa1600. He married Anneke Teunuissen in 1635. Arent Hendricksz died in Nov. 12. 1659. Anneke died in the year 1664.
GERRIT HENDRIKSZ Born at the the Van Hulckesteijn circa 1936 . He married Grietje Bransen in Oosterbeek in 1659. Grietje was baptised in oosterbeek on Jube 8, 1640. She was the daughter of Hendrik Bransen. a Church Custodian and Geertjen Berensen. They also lived at the Van Hulckesteijn.
GERRIT HENDRIKSZ. Born at the Van Hulckesteijn. Baptised in Oosterbeek on Aug. 29th. 1669. He married Aaltje Jansen.
JAN GERRITSZ HULSTEIJN. This is the first time the Hulsteijn name comes up as a form of the Van Hulckesteijns. He was baptised in Velp on Feb.10th. 1696. He married Jantien Hulshof in Velp on July 27th. 1720. Jantien was the daughter of Hendrik Hulshof and Fenneke Gerrits. Jantien died in 1731 and Jan Gerritsz Hulsteijn than married Dillia de Winkel who was baptised in Velp on March 9th. 1710. She was a daughter of Wilhelmus de Winkel and Janneke Jans.
HENDRIK HULSTEIJN. Baptised in Velp March 12th. 1724. He married Anna Willemsen {Baptised in Arnhem 1745} in Arnhem on Oct. 29th 1765. Anna was the daughter of Willem Wllemsen and Aaltje Winkelhof. Hendrik Hulsteijn died in Rozendaal on March 9th. 1784 . Anna Hulsteijn died in Velp 1786.
WILLEM HULSTEIJN. Willem Hulsteijn was baptised in Arnhen on Aug. 3rd. 1768. Occupation: Labourer. He married Johanna Egberts in Velp on Aug, 8th. 1791. Willem Hulsteijn died in Apeldoorn on Dec. 28th. 1854.
JOHANNES ANDRIES HULSTEIN. {the first time we noticed the new and present spelling of the family name} Occupation: Labourer. He was born in Rosendaalon April 8th. 1802. He married Geertje Luttikhuizen on April 27th. 1827. Geertje Luttikhuizen was baptised in Apeldoorn on April 12th 1797 and was the daughter of Reijer { Note: the first mentioning of the name Reijer} Luttikhuizen and and Aaltje Wijnbergen. Johannes Andries Hulstein died in Apeldoorn on Feb. 21, 1861.
REIJER HULSTEIN. Born in Apeldoorn November 18th. 1829. Occupation: Papermaker at Schut's Paper Company { still in operation today{ Reijer Hulstein married Hendrika Ter Hoeven in Apeldoorn on November 18th. 1851. This must have been on his birthday. Hendrika was born in Brummen {Eerbeek} She was a daughter of Jan ter Hoeven and Fenneke Beumkes..
REIJER HULSTEIN. { My grandfather) Born in Brummen {Eerbeek} on April 18th. 1869. He married Reintje Jonker in Apeldoorn on May 23rd. 1896. Reintje Jonker was born in Apeldoorn on Nov. 28th. 1866. She was a daughter of Gerrit Jonker and Johanna de Graaf. Reijer Hulstein died in Apeldoorn on November 15th. 1940 Reintje HNulstein died in Apeldoorn on December 26th. 1953,
HENDRIKUS JOHANNES HULSTEIN. Our Dad was born in Ap[eldoorn on March 6th. 1903. Occupation: Furniture maker and Upholsterer. Hendrikus {Henk} was one of the 4 sons of Reijer and Reintje Hulstein-Jonker. His oldest brother was also named Reijer, then followed Gerrit abd his joungest brother Johannes. {Joop} Hendrikus Hulstein married Geesje IJzerman in Apeldoorn on June 20th. 1928. Geesje IJzerman was de daughter of Peter IJzerman {14-08-1882--- 5-04-1967} and Johanna Gerritdina Overweg.{ 26-05-1886--- 1-11-1928}. Geesje was born in Oene {Epe} on August 25th. 1905. In 1954 the family moved to Vancouver, Canada. Hendrikus Johannes Hulstein died in Vancouver on November 19th. 1968. Geesje H ulstein died in Abbotsford, BC on September 18th. 1996. Their children were: Reijer, Hannie, Henk, Reinie, Nel, Anneke, Gerrie, Irene, Emma,. Esther and Jacquline.
REIJER HULSTEIN. Born in Apeldoorn, April 16th. 1929. Father: Hendrilkus Johannes Hulstein. Mother: Geesje IJzerman.. Reijer Hulstein Married Harmina Dussljee on Dec. 23rd 1953 in Dunedin, New-Zealand. Harmina was the Daughter of Hendrik Dusseljee and Cornelia van der Made. Leaving New-Zealand on December 14th 1059 they arrived in Vancouver on December 28th. 1959 and joined their family, Father, Mother, one brother and 9 sisters. A son, Robert Allen was born there on March 28th. 1962 and a daughter, Denise Irene, born in Burnaby, BC on April 14th. 1965.
ROBERT ALLEN HULSTEIN. Born in Vancouver, March 28th. 1962. Occupation: Chartered Accountant. Robert married Linda Elizabeth Wassenaar on July 28th. 1984. Linda was the daughter of Jan and Betty Wassenaar. Presently they live in Vernon BC with their children: Ryan Paul, born in Richmond BC on Feb. 11th. 1989. Ian Daniel, born in Richmond, on Nov.19th. 1992 and a daughter Laura Adriana, born in Vernon on December 29th. 1995.
DENISE IRENE HULSTEIN. Born in Burnaby, BC on April 14th. 1965. Denise married Darryl Meppelink in Richmond on Oct. 22nd. 1988. They changed their name to: Mathews. Their children are: Braden Michael, born Sept.17th. 1993. Bryce Allen, born Dec. 22nd. 1994. Chelsea Armanda, born on Jan. 27th. 1997 and Brett Alister, born Sept. 12th. 2000.

Frederick John Hulstein. {Rick} Born in Vancouver BC on July 16h. 1959. His Partner: Barbie Braun. Their Children are: Niklaus Henry. Born Aug. 25th. 1959 and Nathan Frederick Born Jan 28. 1998.
Margaret Ann. Born in Vancouver, Sept. 30, 1960. Margaret married Hank Peter Bangma {Born Aug. 16th. 1957} in Vancouver Aug. 1st. 1980. Their children are: Ryan Peter. Born Nov. 24th. 1983. His Partner: Angela Joseph. Colin Peter, born Jan. 29th. 1991. Julia Ann. Born Dec. 27th. 1984. Julia married Andrew Allen in Vernon on July 6th. 2003.
Angela Grace-Lerbeck. Her child: Joshua, Born May 18th. 1996.\ in Vernon BC.
